Decluttering Tips
How to get started :
– Set aside a time when you will not be interrupted and choose an area or room that you can start and finish in the same session. Don’t be surprised how long it will take !
– I always find it is best to declutter with a good friend or a professional who can give you honest advice when deciding on which items to keep and which to discard.
– Make 2 piles, one for recycling or charity and one for selling on.
– When you have been through all your belongings and decided what you are going to keep you can then look at storage solutions and how you are going to display your things so they are tidy and accessible.
You will feel an immense sense of accomplishment and calm when it is all finished and you will be able to enjoy your much loved possessions.
Do not waste an inch of space when putting your possessions back in place. There are so many storage options out there now. For example : baskets, kitchen trollies, hooks, drawer organisers and dividers, vacuum storage bags etc etc. It is also a good idea to label the boxes so you know exactly what is in each one. Cleaning products, medicine, toys, books and even food.
Whether its on display or behind closed doors everything should be organised into groups of products or categories based on how much you like and need them as some things need to be more accessible than others.
Set up a filing system for office and home paperwork with a box file for each category of documents. For example : car documents, household bills, bank paperwork, insurance or doctors information. Another option is to go paperless so everything is on your desktop or laptop and this will alleviate the need for so much paperwork.
Organise your clothes into seasons so you can vacuum pack or store winter items in the summer and vice versa. This will help to keep your wardrobes tidy and you will be able to see everything you have clearly. If it does not fit or you have not worn it for over a year then get rid or recycle !
Jewellery can be displayed on stands or in small boxes and drawer dividers are genius for underwear and small accessories. Think classic when you are buying rather than accumulating loads of throw away items. Another tip is not to get carried away in the sales, clutter may come with a reduced price tag !
Basically, if you don’t love it, use it or wear it, ITS OUT !!
